Principal Statement
The entire school community has committed all efforts towards the Chancellor’s initiatives with
special emphasis on Early Childhood Literacy Improvement and technology throughout the grades. Through the use of the New Standards in English Language Arts, Math, etc. guidelines, our staff is able to improve teaching and learning as well as produce more accurate student assessments via formal and informal methods. Our diverse student population provides the ideal setting for multicultural activities across the curriculum and has shown exemplary tolerance and compassion for others by their many charitable acts, artistic performances and celebratory events. Our comprehensive extracurricular program suitably complements our challenging school curriculum.
Special Academic Programs
 Science and computer labs have produced higher standardized exam results. Our Cultural Arts program includes live student performances. A special math curriculum will result in advanced Regents exams.
Extracurricular Activities
 Chess, sign lang., chorus, track, tennis, basketball, volleyball, tap dance, arts and computer clubs; Theater Arts, remedial Math/reading, h.w. helpers, co-ed athletic teams, community service, Student Council, scouting, band, Test Prep., and student service.
Parental Support for School
 Parents are involved in all aspects of school life and are a vital part of policy making; the Comprehensive Education Plan includes parental input and participation, and parent representatives participate on all school committees. Parents offer tremendous financial and support services.
School Support for Parents
 Parents may participate in all faculty workshops. An on-site Family Assistant conducts day/evening meetings, a volunteer program and a lending library.Counseling, educational assistance and more is available on a daily basis.
Community Support
Adelphi University, Kennedy Airport, St. Joseph's College, Shell Oil, Theaterworks - USA, Taconic Outdoor Ctr, Girl Scouts, Kiwanis, Parks Dept.,funding from local Councilman and State Assemblywoman. Local merchants and resident organizations support school activities.
